FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Information post only. This is not directed at anyone in particular. Please do your research on buying a puppy that is under the age of 6 weeks. If a breeder is selling you a puppy under 6 weeks, please beware. The ideal age is 8 weeks. Just because a puppy can eat soft food, does not mean it should leave its litter. There is a huge amount of socializing that is missed by taking it too young. One of the biggest problems is bite inhibition and undersocialization. Humans cannot take place of the mother and litter mates. Even tho there are success stories of puppies being bought this early and surviving, there are many, many more stories where there are behavior problems and biting from what the puppies have missed out on. A puppies first shot is not due until 6 weeks and will need to be wormed. Any reputable breeder will not send their pups out without worming and their first shot. If we buy these pups before 6-8 weeks, we are encouraging these people to breed over and over again to make a quick buck. dogster/forums/choosing_the_Right_Dog/thread/379189
