FOOD FOR THOUGHT: “Your Soul Is Not Your Enemy” First, a - TopicsExpress

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: “Your Soul Is Not Your Enemy” First, a few definitions: *spirit – new self; how you relate to God. *soul – mind-will-emotions; how you relate to others. *body – how you relate to the physical world. You get your new, righteous nature fully from your spirit, not your soul. Your soul (mind, will, and emotions) is like a mirror. It can be angled one way or another. It merely reflects something else – flesh or Spirit. For example, the Scriptures reveal that your mind (within the soul) can be set on the flesh or set on the Spirit in any given moment (Romans 8:6). Still, you get your spiritual nature from your spirit, not from your oscillating “soul mirror.” So we should not imagine some sort of innate conflict between the spirit and the soul. To do so is to set up a “house divided” theology all over again! In terms of your spirit (righteous) and your “soul mirror”, you are actually heaven-ready in this moment. In heaven, you’ll only receive a new body, not a new spirit and not a new soul. Remember, there is no mention of any last-minute “soul polish” right before you hit the pearly gates. Once we have a resurrection body in heaven, our soul will no longer be accessed by the world, the flesh, or the power of sin in any way, and our “soul mirror” will only reflect Jesus from that day forward. But even now, the soul is not the enemy.
