The Reds would love to sign someone capable of getting 30 goals a season and it is no surprise to see them being lined with Real Madrid striker. It had been rumoured that the French international was close to agreeing a new contract, but will the arrival of World Cup Golden Boot winner James Rodriguez from French club Monaco create an opening for Brendan Rodgers to exploit? It could be that Benzema might feel his chances could be limited in the Champions League winners’ frontline. Whatever his availability it would take a lot of money for Liverpool to persuade Madrid to sell. Liverpool could sign Karim Benzema now Real Madrid have landed James Rodriguez Liverpool have plenty of money to spend after selling Luis Suarez to Barcelona (Picture: AP) I could easily see the Reds having to pay as much as £40million as a transfer fee and cough up wages of around £200,000 a week to tempt the French striker to Anfield. It is clear Liverpool have money to spend and, although they have Sturridge and Lambert and probably Remy from QPR joining them soon, Rodgers would love to add somebody with the quality of Benzema. Great players cost a lot of money and Liverpool are intent on spending big on a ‘marquee’ signing after bolstering their squad with Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic so far this summer. Divock Origi, Remy and Dejan Lovren are all expected to sign soon and a final star addition would complete a busy and productive summer for the Liverpool.
