FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 12, 2013 News Contact: Kristen Brands (785) 877-3315 cell (785) 871-2137 [email protected] Engineering Geology Survey will begin Along U.S. 281 in Russell County On Monday July 15, and continuing for approximately three months, a geology crew from the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will start drilling and other geology survey work along U.S. 281 Highway in Russell County. The drilling operation and geological work will take place along U.S. 281 right-of-way beginning north of Russell extending north to the K-18 junction. The operation is necessary for the detailed design of the proposed modernization project planned under TWORKS on 15 miles of U.S. 281. The geological survey will include the use of truck-mounted drill rigs to determine the type and thickness of soil and rock within the planned project’s corridor. When it becomes necessary for crew members to enter private property, they will first obtain permission from the landowner or tenant. Much of the survey will require vehicles near the highway. Please pay attention to the signs and workers within a construction or work zone and “Give ‘Em A Brake!” KDOT Regional Geologist Neil Croxton will be in charge of the work. For more information regarding the geographical operation, please contact Northwest Kansas Public Affairs Manager Kristen Brands at (785) 877-3315 or [email protected]; or visit our T-WORKS website at: ksdot.org./tworks for more information on the future reconstruction project planned on U.S. 281 in Russell County. . ##
