FOR REALTOR FRIENDS.... OK to Advertise is going away February 27th WHEN? Effective Feb. 27th the required field “OK to Advertise: Y/N” is going away for all property types – ALL existing listings that were advertised without specific written permission MUST be removed on or before March 7th.WHY? “You cannot advertise someone else’s listing without permission, and you definitely cannot advertise a property for sale that is not on the market. An epidemic of this behavior has broken out. To help brokers and agents, there are individual marketing pages designed for real estate, classified ad websites, property rental websites and other popular real estate portals (think Craigslist, Zillow, Trulia and Homes to name a few). Instead of being used as intended, however, they’re being used to advertise listings without permission. Why do agents do this? Obviously, this is done to encourage prospective buyers and sellers to call them instead of the brokers who own the listings.”* To ensure our MLS and its participants are in compliance with NAR MLS policies and procedures, the MIAMI Association Boards of Governors have decided to remove the “OK to Advertise field from the MLS across ALL property types – Effective February 27, 2014. Please Note: Most agents think “OK to Advertise = Y” provides authorization to republish MLS listing content on other websites, like Craigslist or Zillow to name a few. This is not correct. Other agents think “OK to Advertise = N” will keep their listing from appearing on the Internet. Not correct. This is a function of Internet - Y/N Remember: IDX is not advertising – IDX is display under the rules and guidelines established by NAR MLS Policies and Procedures. Removal of “OK to Advertise” does NOT affect IDX displays on websites. Removal of “OK to Advertise” does not affect syndication of broker’s listings from the MIAMI MLS to more than 500 real estate portals. HOW? Can you advertise other agent’s listings once “OK to Advertise” is removed? – Yes, simply secure written permission from the Listing Broker. Click here for the NEW “Permission to Advertise” form.
