FOR-USA is proud to support and network more than a dozen religious peace fellowships. Libby Shannon, co-chair of the Presbyterian Peace Fellowships national board, shared this proud report following the conclusion of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) in Detroit MI last weekend: The 221st General Assembly of the PC(USA) has been a watershed one for the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship -- whose national board I co-chair. A sample of our successful work: * The strengthening and commending of 5 recommendations to the presbyteries on the peace discernment process * Solid groundwork laid on a strong anti-drone position * Calling on Presbyterian churches to be gun-free zones and a movement to prevent gun violence * The creation of the Immigrant Defense Initiative * Calling, yet again, for an across-the-board moratorium on the death penalty * Supporting the removal of Cuba from the terrorist state list * Marriage equality and a strong statement condemning LGBT violence across the globe * Powerful steps forward on divesting from fossil fuels * A call to divest from 3 American companies profiting off of violent occupation in Palestine. FOR pays tribute to our members and allies in PPF as well as all those who helped mobilize their denomination to action on a wide range of peace and justice issues at its recent GA!
