FREE PHOTOSHOOTS There is no such thing as a FREE PHOTO SHOOT. Here are some of the costs associated with Photoshoots that the subject or model bears. Makeup – The value of makeup cannot be underrated as it makes the look. Wardrobe. Even if existing wardrobe is used that wardrobe cannot be used in another photo session and every day outfits may not be suitable for the best photo session so most invest something in wardrobe, for this session or most certainly all sesson after the first experience. Hair, Tanning, Manicures may be optional but may also be an expense if the subject is going all out. All of this is quite a large investment to take advantage of a “free service” or to start seeking the cheapest photographer, or ask for the shortest cheapest of each photographers options. Photographers are not unlike any other professional there are good ones and not so good ones but the most important thing should be that they produce the photos you love and not just the cheapest photo. We all charge different rates and some just shoot you on a tread mill of other client’s one after the other for short less personalized services. Other help you create the looks you want and take time and care to help you achieve the best looks you asked for. Some do not edit or airbrush the photos and some do not and some do it poorly. WHAT DO YOU GET IN RETURN: How long is the session: The length of a photo shoot is very important as you need time to relax feel comfortable and learn to present the poses and expressions you will be proud of. Instruction takes time as well and may be used to help create the confidence you need to achieve your best. My session are a minimum of 2 hours for this reason and yet some offer what I might think would be snap shots in a half hour for what amounts ot more than my hourly fee but it is a slightly cheaper over all cost. When are photos delivered? Because they are free they have to be a lower priority than all paid sessions. Does that mean you get the job finished tomorrow or next fall. Most professional photographer must finish jobs as quickly as possible so they have time for the next and referrals are important in this business. What is delivered? Original photos with all blemishes still showing, enhanced by poor lighting or those not well hidden by makeup, or will you receive images that are lightly and quickly carelessly edited, or images that are airbrushed slightly so they are not noticeable or over processed to look like wax, and are the printed or digital. So lets be honest: The preparation I listed above will cost hundreds of dollars and if that investment is not made the images will be noticeably inferior to sessions where these expenses are included. Now consider the logic of spending all of this money to prepare to go out for dinner, for an important date, when you know the ultimate destination is McDonalds. Sorry McD
