FREE PUBLIC LECTURE TONIGHT – ‘Aware’ holds free public lectures at 7.30pm on the second Wednesday of every month in the Lecture Theatre, Swift Centre, St. Patrick’s Hospital, James’s Street, Dublin 8 and this month’s lecture will be by Professor Patrick McKeon on the subject of bipolar disorder. Often referred to as a condition affecting geniuses and the highly creative, bipolar disorder or manic depression affects millions, and among those with the diagnosis have been:- - US astronaut Buzz Aldrin, UK politician Sir Winston Churchill, US President Abraham Lincoln, and mathematician Sir Isaac Newton; - actors, film stars or film makers Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), Jim Carrey, Richard Dreyfuss, Mel Gibson, Alfred Hitchcock, Vivien Leigh, Kristy McNichol, Spike Milligan, Jack Nicholson, Ben Stiller, and Catherine Zeta-Jones; - singers Connie Francis, Jimmy Hendrix, Hugh Laurie, Madonna, Sinead O’Connor, Charlie Pride, Frank Sinatra, and rapper “DMX”; - composers Ludwig van Beethoven, Kurt Cobain, and Ozzie Osbourne; - and writers or poets Charles Dickens, John Keats, and Edgar Allen Poe.
