FREE SPEECH - Or an abuse of Free Speech ?? It seems that the Festival of Dangerous Ideas was taking its own title a little to seriously !! - Like Louie the Lip - many will be conflicted by the two possible options. Does the standard maxim on free speech - that you are NOT free to yell fire in a theater apply and it was right to cancel this event, or, should he be free to speak? Being both a huge supporter of free speech - but - having already seen the treatment of this topic by Muslims on the net - I believe the cancellation is justified - he is not only likely to yell FIRE !! - but then go on to argue that it is not really a fire. Like so many clerics- He is still FREE to argue his case on FB or YT, without invading Australias prime cultural space - I challenge him to this option !! But, I do wander if Australias anti-discrimination / anti-free speech laws also apply to an advocate of hate speech and murder!! Alternatively.... Dabar is also FREE to recite from Mien Kampf outside a Jewish Synagogue!! - a not inappropriate analogy. Would Australia allow that ???
