FRIDAY 11th APRIL 1997: I came to work with a positive frame of mind - to get on with everyone and keep a smiling face. It worked too and made my day go quicker - except for one incident at the beginning of the day. Id picked up the phone to ring Paddy and - instead of saying: Do you mind if I make a call first? Gill clenched her fist, waved her hands down and said: Put the phone down. I threw such a surprised/disgusted look it could have killed. I made no attempt to hide it. Anyway, Douglas came in in the morning (after the Wedge DJ who bought a Biohazard pin badge - sad man). Hes having a bouncy castle party! It sounds like such a corking idea! He also told me Trishs place was trashed over and the remaining clothes all cut up! I couldnt believe it! Shes now gonna have a stall on the Thursday market instead. I think thats a real shame. Nic came in. Shed been to Paul Sams recently and fallen for some Tottenham supporter who, according to Paul: His door swings both ways. Another one to add to her list... I told Nic about Onion Rings. She said he reminded her of Jack Daniels younger, uglier brother. I said: What, Helen Daniels?... Nic thought my hair was nice, although this comment occurred yesterday. A strange thing happened to me on the shop floor. I got chatted up by some indie chick who looked a little like Jo. She said it was a shame about the shop closing and whether I was gonna get a position in another store. I told her about the Virgin situation. She said: Ill miss it. Im Sarah by the way. I introduced myself and she told me she lived in Hemel Hempstead. However, she then asked: Is this Jimi Hendrix? (playing - which it was) and then told me her *BOYFRIENDS* niece (she may have even said daughter but Im trying to reassure myself otherwise), sang one of his songs. She was so obviously chatting me up but not in a tarty way - and then she lets on she has a boyfriend! I dont know! Once home, Jaime rang and we organised to go for a drink. We talked about Wednesday, Katherine being depressed about Glenn, Douglas and Taz apparently getting off with each other, and TOTP came on during our call with Mark Owen presenting. We also talked of TFI Friday, which Id watched tonight for Suedes performance of Lazy. Theyve all had their hair cut! Neil actually half smiled into the camera with his new short naturally auburn hair! Even Mum said of Brett: Hes looking good or something along those lines. After TOTP, I got ready and me and Jaime were off to Houstons for a drink. Once there, we bumped into Jenny Roberts and a couple of her Seckloe friends, whom I recognised. Jaime was non-stop chat to them all but I felt out of place. I didnt say much, just looked down into my pint glass, although Jenny did speak to me briefly about Simon dying his hair blonde and getting his ear pierced... I felt very out of place. Sitting at a table with three girls nattering. If blokes saw me, then theres more bullets to add to their gun of prejudice. (Wow! Metaphor!) I feel like the whole world thinks Im gay now. I want to reverse that but it seems too difficult. I kept wondering if Id see Scott tonight but the place was fairly quiet and the only other person I saw was Kaywana. Shes great. She blatantly asked if Jaime was my girlfriend and I settled that, then went on to tell her of my job situation. As for me and Jaime, we talked about Wednesdays getting better and how were getting old!! We dont know whats gonna happen over the next few months, with Katherine maybe going to uni in September, my job situation etc etc. Oh, and the toilets in Houstons were rank!
