FRIDAY AT 1PM! Norma Shearer began her career at MGM in 1924, and became one of Hollywoods most sophisticated actresses. In this course, we will view and discuss three of Ms. Shearers films, in their entirety, produced at MGM, which were adapted from stage plays: Sidney Franklins 1931 film adaptation of Noel Cowards comedy, Private Lives, in which a divorced couple find themselves at the same hotel, with their spouses; and two films directed by George Cukor: the 1936 film adaptation of William Shakespeares tragic Romeo and Juliet, with Shearer and Leslie Howard; and the 1939 film of Claire Luces all-female play, The Women, in which Shearer portrays a woman, who finds that her husband is leaving her for a shop girl (Joan Crawford). The film features an all-female cast of stars: Crawford, Joan Fontaine, Rosiland Russell, Paulette Goddard, and others. Three sessions. Fee for course: $65. To register, please call 516-299-2580. Course will be presented at Lorber Hall, on the campus of LIU: C.W. Post.
