FRIDAYS FORECAST / SNOW ON THE WAY? FRIDAY: A cold but dry and generally bright day today with lots of wintery sunshine. Max temperatures of 5C but feeling closer to 0C in the NW breeze. Winds will ease off later and frost will set in soon after dark as temperatures drop to 0C. SATURDAY: A frosty sunny start to the day but cloud will increase during the morning. SW winds will also pick up as a band of rain pushes in from the Atlantic in the afternoon. Temperatures will reach 9C. The rain will clear Saturday night and it will turn much colder again. With wet roads, ice will form before Sunday morning. SUNDAY: Some showers about but mostly dry and sunny. Very cold at 4C so any showers will fall as snow above c.400m. Frosty again Sunday night. FURTHER OUTLOOK: Unsettled next week as Atlantic depressions resume operations. There is a possibility that these could develop into proper storms so I will be keeping a close eye on them. Regarding all the talk of snow, I cannot see anything that would suggest this is nothing other than media hype. Conditions will certainly lead to some strong and cold polar air being dragged south in the wake of any Atlantic depressions, but this is the norm in Ireland at this time of year. So yes we might see some snow showers but all the talk of Arctic Freezes etc and a repeat of 2010 in the media is way over doing it imho!
