FRIEND our site if you enjoy these older military items/photos. This is a photo of a Cattaraugus 225Q fighting knife. This knife was made during WW-2 and was a private purchase item for many military men especially special forces units. This one has the sheath marked SGT A.H. Allen Choiseul Island 29 Oct 1943 2nd Prcht Bn USMC~over a parachute and skull & crossbones. These knives have a heavy blade and staked leather handles. The US Marines trained parachute units ready for war and they served in the Pacific but never made a recorded combat jump. The USMC 2nd Parachute Battalion served as a Navy delivered attack force on Choiseul Island, in the South Pacific, from Oct. 28, 1942 to Nov. 3, 1943. The assault was a planned diversion to throw the Japanese forces off the main planned attack by the Allies on the west coast of Bougainville at Empress Augusta Bay. The Choiseul Raid by these USMC paratroopers is an amazing story and you need to check it out. If I recall correctly the Choiseul Raid story was made into a motion picture a few years back. The final trapped 40-50 Marines were rescued off a small strip of the island by USN PT-59 under the command of Lt. John F. Kennedy while under active Japanese assault. General William C.
