Some great racing in Ireland today at The Curragh The reappearance of War Command is undoubtedly the highlight of the card, the supporting races features the likes of 1000 Guineas second favourite Tapestry as well as a triple Australian Group One winning sprinter, Sea Siren on what could be a red-letter day for Aidan O’Brien. Whilst the impressive Coventry Stakes winner War Command should take the feature, it is difficult to put forward a 2/5 shot as a betting proposition. Instead, we look for a little more value in the Debutante Stakes. The Curragh 3.15….The race is dominated by Aidan O’Brien who supplies three of the seven runners. Tapestry created a favourable impression on her debut at this track and currently trades as second favourite for the first fillies’ classics of 2014. As the choice of Joseph O’Brien here and as consequently is the odds-on favourite. However, we believe there is precious little between Tapestry and her more experienced stable-mate PERHAPS, who trades at 9/2 and therefore the latter gets the vote on what will be a hugely informative day with regards to the ante-post betting for next year’s Guineas. In the previous race…… The Curragh 2.45…..Mark Johnston’s MAPUTO is the selection to overcome Scintulla after here after her close third behind Ernest Hemingway at Leopardstown on Thursday in what looked a hard race. Johnston’s charge has every right to be in this company after progressing through handicaps to land a Listed race at Hamilton. Downpatrick 16.00…. Oliver Brady’s IMPERIAL SHABRA is available at around 10/1 and gets the EW nomination in the two mile two furlong handicap hurdle. Well beaten in the Galway Plate last time out, he reverts to hurdles here and off a mark of 116, just sneaks into this race. Leicester 16.55….Eric Alston’s string are hitting form as is the jockey Jason Hart so we take LORD FRANKLIN to take this at an EW price. Others to note are Oratario’s Joy who won by a head last time and up just 1lb is open to further progress and Typhon will appreciate the drop back in trip having travelled smoothly before fading over 1of last time. Windsor 16.10….Richard Hannon usually picks p a few at Windsor so we go for BROWNSEA BRINK who only made his first appearance as a 3yo nine days ago but showed improved form to win and has the potential to emerge on top again in this company. Ancient Greece can follow him home for George Baker’s yard. Windsor 17.00….MISTER FIZZ is our nomination following his close second at Ffos Las last time out though proving his stamina over this trip. Lightly raced this season he gets the nod over Certavi was also only beaten half-a-length over course and distance last time out. What’s everyone else backing today?
