FRIENDS: Our search activities for Dennis Shampine are over for the present time. Unfortunately, we were unable to capture him, despite the work of our officers and the Sheriffs Deputies who assisted us. We regret any concern or anxiety our activities may have caused. However, the fact remains that Mr. Shampine is wanted on four felony charges and we need to take him into custody. We greatly appreciate all of the phone calls and information that many of you provided to us. It is gratifying to have the support of our Community and all of the extra eyes and ears to help us! We understand that many of you were upset with the school lock downs, a step that the school board elected to take to insure the safety of your children during a period of uncertainty. The actions of the school board were not prompted by anything other than the significant law enforcement presence in the area, including the Sheriffs Office helicopter, and many marked and unmarked police vehicles. The subject was not seen near the schools and there was never any risk to the schools, but that is not something the school board could take a chance on, and so they followed their protocol. We will continue to search for Mr. Shampine and we ask that you let us know if you happen to see him. Now that the helicopter is no longer circling overhead and the excitement has died down, he may try to slip out of his hiding place, so keep an eye out for him.
