FROM CROCKETT LEGACY MAP: SITE # 2 SYCAMORE SHOALS STATE PARK. Sycamore Shoals State Park – Elizabethton. John Crockett (David’s father) assembled here with other Patriots on September 25, 1780 to fight the British forces. The Overmountain Men as they were called crossed the mountains to the east and defeated the British forces at the battle of Kings Mountain on October 7, 1780 - some six years before David Crockett was born. A fort was built at Sycamore Shoals called Fort Watauga. A replica of the fort now stands in the park. The area also contains a visitor center with a museum and theatre showing the film The Overmountain People and a picnic area. Located on US Hwy 321 in Elizabethon, East Tennessee.
