***FROM CRUELTY HOLD STRAIGHT TO KILL LIST*** A volunteer writes Sparky is a young and good looking Chihuahua who seems to have gone through some hard times. He is quite scared and can be found huddled at the back of his kennel. He is a bit of an escaped artist , though, trying to exit without being leashed...He seems to want to nip me but thinks better and off we leave for the yard. Sparky is hesitant and needs to be coached to walk. He is a tiny thing in a huge shelter. It must be tough to face a world of giants....humans and dogs alike. Treats are often a way to bond with dogs and it certainly is no exception with Sparky. He chews little bits of roastbeef and lets me caress his head then his body. I was told he does not like to be lifted but he accepted my help and came on the bench, then on my lap for more petting. We are are friends now although I know that I have to handle Sparky with care. Before to call it a night, I decided to give Sparky another little walk...He was still at the back of his den but this time, when he saw me, he came immediately upfront, got leashed in a second and strolled valliantly toward the yard... Dogs are just so genuine and wonderful. Away from the care center, I think a lot about Sparky, every day, I must say...He really got under my skin and I hope that he will touch your heart as well. Sparky is at the Manhattan shelter, dreaming to be your beloved forever best friend.
