FROM JOHN VINCENT ex WIGAN CASINO DJ.... With Northern Soul well and truly established at the Blackpool Mecca and Wigan Casino the Northern Soul Scene expanded even further nationally. One such town in the South was Peterborough where the Phoenix Soul Club was established. This was a club that contained a huge nucleus of enthusiastic ‘soul until we die’ aficionados. These Northern Soul followers formed a stronghold of collectors who eventually became DJs in their own right who played at the Wirrina Stadium. The Wirrina became ‘the’ destination for the majority of soul fans in East Anglia. Soul nights, all-day and all night sessions followed with big attendances throughout the seventies and onwards. Visited by many, its loss today is still mourned by all the original followers of this amazing underground scene today....
