FROM MY POLITICAL DESK Student politics is that ethical part or aspect of regulation, administration and governance of students that aims to advance the common good and interest of students. Student politics must basically aim to harness and organize resources and students of an institution into proper and manageable administrative systems, purposes and functions to: - preserve integrity of the students. - promote and enhance peace and harmony amongst students. - preserve students interest. - protect and preserve rights, liberties and privileges of students. - etc Student politics must most importantly be development focused, aim to improve and preserve the moral standards and values as well as ethical principles that will create harmonious environment for the students. A student politician must be a model student whose values are worth emulating by others irrespective of what people say about him or her. A student politician must therefore set a pattern for others to follow in school. S/he must be a builder of unity and not one whose actions or in-actions destroy students relationship. A student politician must be one who can handle administration of civic affairs. A student politician must be able to organize, manage, allocate and utilize available resources in the best and most efficient way possible to the benefit of students. A model student politician is one who is able to make the best and most efficient exploitation of available resources (mostly scarce) to the benefit of students. A model student politician must have the ability to identify and develop potentials in a student for good. To be a student politician is a privilege and not a right.
