FROM PETER O’NEILL TO NPF TO MP TO PM, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? If an opinion pool is conducted to determine the fate of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, I believe most Papua New Guineans would want Peter O’Neill to resign as PM, at least for now. But he didn’t at the first place appointed himself to the highest office on the land. He was first elected as the Member of Parliament by the people of Ialibu Pangia. Since then he was appointed to key ministers before elevated to PM in 2011. His elevation to the highest post was neither the unusual way nor the brutal of all. He was only elevated in a coup like power struggle with the father of the nation, former Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare. Thanks to Belden Namah, the then dear brother of Peter O’Neill, Namah helped made O’Neill King only to find himself rejected after the 2012 the elections from the kingdom he helped build. Memories of that fateful moment which has seen the fall of the Father of the Nation Grand Chief are still fresh in the minds of many Papua New Guineans. However, here we are again embroiled in another political impasse. But this time it’s unlikely will end anytime soon. Thanks to 2017, it’s still far away. Is there a way to bring the current political turmoil to a stop for now? The answer lies not in the rule of the laws. The answer lies in the whole process of electing leaders. How did Peter O’Neill at the first place made it to PM or even to MP despite the NPF saga? Some people without knowing the truth and the danger this country is in because of one man, would think that O’Neill is a better PM PNG ever had. No! He is equally like his predecessors the worst PNG ever had. His story of becoming a PM is only possible in PNG but not in developed countries like Australia, Japan, or USA. In these countries, O’Neill would never stand a first or even a second chance of becoming a PM with his NPF background. Peter O’Neill was never born to be a PM. He was made to be one only to destroy and tear apart this country. To know the history of how Peter O’Neill became PM from NPF, this dreadful political miscarriage in which he wrestled power from the Grand Chief must be recorded so that the future generations will learn how stupid this generation was in electing a PM like Peter O’Neill with his NPF background to be their PM and continue protecting him from serious allegations. It’s not only we are blind in electing leaders, we are also foolish with our choices of leaders. Even the process we elect leaders is open to criminals, crooks, rapists and murders to contest the elections and enter parliament in the disguise as Hon. MPs. As a result, we continue to elect leaders with criminal intent who have been actively reaping this country apart while accumulating personal wealth at the expense of the development and progress of the country. Let’s take a look at the political histories of some of our former PMs. Sir Michael was linked to the Moti Affair and he was also found guilty in a leadership tribunal in 2011 and fined. His long association with Asian network continues to reaping this country apart. Paias Wingti is known for the millions squandered to the Cayman Islands and is a student turned politician turned millionaire. Sir Julius is known for the Sandline Crisis trying to kill his own people to protect corporate and foreign greed. Sir Mekere Morauata is known for his government ordered the killings of the UPNG students in June 26, 2001. Is Peter O’Neill different from his predecessors? The answer is no. He is only following the footsteps of his predecessors and continuing from where they left. If we want to see this country change, our hope does not lie in anything else except to change the past so that the past must not be repeated in the future time and again. Unless we can find a way to blacklist and ban leaders like the former PMs from holding public offices, we will keep electing bad leaders only to destroy our own beautiful country and make our lives extremely worse. Now most of the MPs are supporting Peter O’Neill because they are worse or same as Peter O’Neill. They are now hunting and destroying the future of this country together like wolves in packs. Sad for PNG, isn’t it?
