FROM THE NEWSROOM: FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Metro-North Railroad says train service is being temporarily suspended through Fairfield while authorities investigate a suspicious package near the station. Metro-North spokesman Aaron Donovan says the suspension started at about 6:15 a.m. Friday in both directions. He says trains are stopped before they get to the Fairfield station area. The railroad is reporting delays of 30 to 60 minutes. Train service between Stamford and Grand Central terminal is not affected. Metropolitan Transportation Authority police are investigating. Metro-North serves 281,000 riders a day in New York and Connecticut and is the nations second busiest commuter railroad.
