FROM THE NEWSROOM: Following concerns raised by early education staff in the Woodstock public schools who felt stretched too thin, school officials are moving ahead with a plan that should improve the classroom climate for teachers and kids. At Woodstock Elementary School, two part-time kindergarten teaching assistants are being sought after the Board of Education and Finance Subcommittee agreed its time to begin advertising and looking into what salaries might be. Elementary School Principal Victor Toth told WINY that in the past there was a full-time education teaching assistant for each Kindergarten teacher, but this year teachers are just sharing one; Toth thanked education officials for their generosity in approving what he hopes will be two new part-timers by the next week or so. Toth said things had gotten to the point where teachers just didnt have the time in the classroom to teach students basic functions like holding pencils and writing their names in an adequate manner, but these upcoming hires should solve that problem. Tune in for the full report.
