FROM THE NEWSROOM: Following direction from the Pomfret Board of Finance to cut $50,000 from its proposed 2014-15 school year budget proposal, the Board of Education has begun discussions of what may hit the chopping block; so far, the two main options on the table are two new and unfilled teaching assistant positions, as well as the enrichment program, which is scheduled to return next year. However, according to school board Vice Chairman Kate Cerrone, a recent administrators report indicates that the amount of cuts necessary may be significantly reduced by recent news of anticipated increases to revenue. Specifically, health insurance costs look like they will be about $25,000 less than what had been budgeted for. And as previously reported, the district will also save some money through changes in Woodstock Academys Homestay program, where towns including Pomfret will be paid for the transportation of international students to and from the Academy. Tune in for the full report.
