FROM THE NEWSROOM: HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The Hartford HealthCare system has announced plans to cuts 350 jobs at its hospitals and health centers across the state. Chief operating officer Jeffrey Flaks sent a letter to employees Monday saying that 230 of the cuts would be made through layoffs and the rest would come by leaving vacant positions unfilled. Flaks says the cuts are necessary because national health care restructuring has resulted in fewer private patients and low reimbursement rates from the government. The cuts will affect workers across the system, including Hartford Hospital, the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, Midstate Medical Center in Meriden, Backus Hospital in Norwich and Windham Hospital. Flaks says the network has reduced other costs by more than $200 million as part of recent efficiency initiatives.
