FROM THE NEWSROOM: Killinglys Economic Development Commission - TopicsExpress

FROM THE NEWSROOM: Killinglys Economic Development Commission Tuesday held a special meeting in order to hear about energy efficiency programs for municipalities and businesses from Energize Connecticut, which is an initiative that looks to empower communities to make smarter energy choices. Members from Energize CT outlined various programs that would promote energy efficiency for local businesses and towns by offering incentives including advisory services, low interest loans, and reduced equipment replacement services, among other things. Elsie Bisset, Killinglys Economic Development Director, spoke about the Commissions role in advising and giving resources to local businesses. One of the best ways to increase profits, she feels, is reducing energy costs by conservation and implementing energy efficient procedures. The presentation from Energize CT outlined the economic benefits from both reducing energy needs, as well as investing in more energy efficient equipment and facilities. Most notably, a reduction of monthly energy bills and installation subsidies were brought up as possible benefits for local businesses. The presentation also included information on renewable energy certificates, which is a program that allows businesses, municipalities, and residential properties to sell energy created from renewable sources to utility companies and developers, provided they meet certain eligibility criteria. The Commission also suggested that a meeting with facility managers from local businesses and members from the Energize CT initiative would allow both parties the opportunity to discuss specific needs of each business in depth. Bisset suggested that a potential meeting could be set up in January. Tune in for the full report.
