FROM THE NEWSROOM: NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Authorities say four workers were trapped when a trench collapsed at a New Haven construction site, but none of the injuries appears to be life threatening. The trench at a worksite on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University was reported at about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. Two other workers escaped before the collapse. Three of the trapped workers were taken to the hospital while the fourth refused treatment at the scene. New Haven Battalion Chief William Gould called the workers four extremely lucky individuals. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating. The workers were not university employees, but worked for a contractor replacing a corroded steam line.
