FROM THE NEWSROOM: NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Police in New Haven are warning residents not to let people into their homes even if they claim to represent utility companies. The warning comes after an elderly couple reported to police earlier this week that they let two men who claimed to be water company workers into their home. The men, wearing blue clothing and blue gloves, claimed there was a burst water pipe and needed to check indoor pipes to determine if the water had been poisoned. Once inside, they forced the woman into a bathroom. Police said it wasnt clear if anything was stolen. Police spokesman David Hartman says utility workers carry photo identification badges, rarely need to access homes and usually arrange an appointment in advance when they do need to get inside.
