FROM THE NEWSROOM: The American Lung Association of the Northeast recently announced the launch of the largest Wood Stove Changeout Program in the United States, set to cover Windham County and New London County, as well as the state of Rhode Island and parts of Massachusetts. With the goal to improve outdoor and indoor air quality by removing antiquated, high polluting and low efficiency wood stoves and hydronic heaters, Senior Vice President of Public Policy of the Lung Association Ed Miller said the program replaces the older units with more efficient, EPA-certified wood, pellet and gas stoves. Miller said that homeowners, as well as members of tribes, living in the project area can apply for a voucher to change out their old wood stoves with a new one; $1,000 vouchers are available for a new wood stove, $2,000 for a pellet or gas stove, $3,000 for any previously mentioned stove for the income qualified; $4,000 for a new hydronic heater or gas furnace, or $300 for a new catalyst or retrofit for an existing stove or heater.
