So, I got a shock this morning. All my life, I have said that I was half Norwegian cuz my dad was 100% Norwegian. Well, if you can trust 23andme, I am only 29.2% Norwegian. I would be SO interested in any of my family doing this DNA analysis and seeing if the results are similar. So very interesting!! The sad part is, that you can only test your specific paternal line if you are a male because you need a Y chromosome for that, and I have no brothers, and my father has passed, so I will never know exactly where those Norwegian Nygards and Qualleys came from. Possibly, my cousin, James, is the only one who could trace that, but I dont know how accurate that would be for me. I suppose it could work. As for my mothers side, that is much more easily traceable through the X chromosomes, and those ancestors came from all over Eastern Europe, but mainly Britain and Ireland (25.3%), with a little bit of French and German (only 7.5% -- thought I was more German than that -- and dont know why they lump French and German together, but I havent read all the fine print yet). I even am 0.1% Ashkenazi Jew!!! LOL. Im excited about all these findings and encourage everyone to splurge for the $45 and give it a try! Does anyone else think this is cool, or am I just a nerd???? LOL.
