FROM THE NEWSROOM: The Pomfret school district still has an estimated $2 million in un-expended funds available to finish off the current school year, and the Board of Education estimates that at the end of June the district will be able to return about $100,000 to the town. Board of Education Vice Chairman Kate Cerrone said that coming within $100,000 of a $10 million budget is a noteworthy accomplishment, and she is pleased with how the schools finances have played out this year. Even though overall expenses are staying under the mark, there are some areas of the 2013-14 budget which were over-expended including transportation, technology equipment, music supplies and custodial overtime. Cerrone confirmed the custodial overtime over-expenditure is related to an incident earlier this year when a district employee was placed on administrative leave following claims that were later determined to be unsubstantiated by three separate investigations. Tune in for the full report.
