FROM THE NEWSROOM: The Quinebaug Regional Tech Park and YMCA Bridge Project has received “the last piece of regulatory approval,” according to Putnams Town Administrator Doug Cutler. Cutler spoke to us about the moment he received the notification that the Flood Management Certification had arrived, saying, “It made the Mayors day, it made my day and it was exciting news, because that was the last piece of the puzzle that we needed to have accomplished and we finally got that notification.” Because of the bridges close proximity to the Quinebaug River, many engineering specifications had to be researched before the project could go any further. According to Cutler, the $3.3 million bridge project faced a lot of uncertainty related to the permitting of the bridge. Now that the uncertainty has been lifted, he says he is excited to get to the “nuts and bolts” of the project: putting the project out to bid, getting construction underway and eventually locating companies to fill the regional tech park. Cutler says the goal is to start construction of the bridge this fall or in the spring of next year. Tune in for the full report.
