FROM THE NEWSROOM: The cost and benefits of the Quinebaugh - TopicsExpress

FROM THE NEWSROOM: The cost and benefits of the Quinebaugh Regional Technology Park were highlighted at a meeting in Putnam on Thursday. The $7.7 million project has a net cost near $720,000. While each lot varies in value related to size, Mayor Tony Falzarano said that each will be sold for more than $200,000 -- totaling $971,000, if all four are sold. Once developed, each lot is expected bring around 73-120 full-time jobs to the area, which does not include the short term construction jobs and those at the YMCA. Officials projected the median salary of each full-time employee at $58,000. Revenue projections for the town were estimated near $28,000 in tax revenue per lot, and a total of $101,900 every year. Falzarano says he is confident that it wont be a problem finding businesses for the tech park – every time the word gets out that theres a tech park in the works, there are a lot of inquiries, according to the Mayor, who feels the location is perfect. Falzarano believes that businesses want to come to Connecticut, despite the high taxes, noting the location has easy access to I-395, which is connected to Hartford, Providence, Worcester and Boston. The YMCA is already on board. The company began clearing the land for construction earlier this year and hope to have the entire lot cleared and ready for construction by the end of June. This bridge to the land will be funded by a $2.9 million grant. For now, Falzarano said everything hinges on the bridge. Once the bridge is completed, Economic Development Coordinator Delpha Very will begin marketing the park in the Northeast and beyond, hoping to find potential businesses. On June 11th there will be a Town Meeting to vote on the Interlocal Agreement with Scotland and the Technology Park project will be put to a referendum vote on June 19th. Tune in for the full report.
