FROM THE NEWSROOM: The town of Sterling, continuing a multi-year process of updating its zoning regulations, is now looking at its current excavation ordinance. First Selectman Russell Gray says that the ordinance is already in place, but the plan now is to make it a part of the zoning regulations instead of simply an administration of the Board of Selectman. The applicant will still submit an application as per usual. However, it will first go to the Planning and Zoning Commission before it is sent to the Board of Selectman to be decided on. There will be a public hearing and town meeting for this proposal to be put into effect, however Gray said that he was unsure if more internal discussion needed to happen first, as regulation changes always take time to finalize.
