FROM THE NEWSROOM: This Sunday, runners and walkers will take to the streets of Putnam to show their support for the fight against ovarian cancer. Residents may have noticed numerous teal ribbons posted around town – Deputy Police Chief Lee Konicki said theyre part of a campaign spearheaded by the Connecticut Women of Hope, a local organization which formed following the passing of a loved one to the cancer a couple years ago. Organization director Danielle Payne confirmed the proceeds of the upcoming 5k road race will go toward battling ovarian cancer, and all the funds will stay within the state of Connecticut. The out-and-back race kicks off at 9 am Sunday morning at the Elks Club on Edmond Street, going down St. James East through the Heritage Pine Condo complex up through the Putnam Housing Authority property to Walnut Street, and coming back down that same route once participants reach the intersection with Shippee Woods Drive. Police do not anticipate any road closures or significant impacts on traffic, other than some minor delays and an increased number of vehicles parked on Edmond Street.
