FTOW: I love shopping, but perhaps we should decrease the quantity of clear heels purchased. Pole dancing is far less controversial than it once was. Not judging here, but let’s explore this topic. We always talk about violence that primarily our young males are involved in and the multitude of caskets purchased because of it. We rarely speak of the caskets containing only the hearts and minds of our young females. Yes, there are male revues, but we’ll save that topic for another week. Some will never actually get it, and some don’t get it until they have Daughters of their own. Perhaps now Jay-Z and Kanye will understand in a way they never have before. Let’s start doing the right thing, whether it is your Daughter or the Daughter of someone else. Just because something in this country is “legally” allowed does not mean it is “morally” acceptable. Let’s be clear, there is nothing wrong with actually being on a pole; the athleticism involved is much admired. I just hope it is only for your Spouse to enjoy or part of an effective exercise program. Who wouldn’t want that? Anything else may be hazardous to mental health. Take it from someone whose young body matured many moons before her mind fully developed. I was never a pole dancer, but don’t think that in tough financial times the thought didn’t cross my mind before my “saved” days. Real Talk, even those raised in a healthy environment may think of twerking and hitting the pole in these economic times! As a former Interpretive and African Dancer, I certainly could have pulled it off. To quote Comedian Chris Rock, “the BIG goal in a fathers life is to keep his daughter off the pole.” While this topic is a bit controversial, go ahead and buy your clear heels! I am hopeful that only a couple will enjoy them once the lid on that shoebox is popped.
