Iyayi’s Kinsmen Demand N50bn Compensation From Wadas Government The Onojie of Ugbegunland, hometown of former President of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Professor, Festus Iyayi, in Edo State, HRM, Samuel Obade I, and his people, demand N50 billion as the compensation to the family of the late professor by the Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada. The community in a letter dated November 13, urged the Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, Abuja, to carry out a thorough investigation of the car accident involving Iyayi and Wadas convoy for Nigerians to know the actual cause of Iyayis death. Governor Wadas convoy was accused of recklessness on the road. NMA calls for probe Commenting on the death, NMAs President, Osahon Enabulele, urged the Federal Government to do everything possible to stop deaths caused by the recklessness of executive convoys. He also added, While we await the outcome of the official inquiry into the auto crash, we deeply condole with the entire Iyayi family, the President and members of ASUU and the Vice-Chancellor, University of Benin. Iyayi led by example - Oshiomhole Expressing his condolences to the family of ASUU former head in Benin City, Governor Adams Oshiomhole, said that Professor Iyayi was not only a husband and a father, but a member of a much larger family. The Gorvernor confessed that the death of such prolific man was a pure shock for him. When I learnt that our comrade died in such gruesome manner, only a stone hearted person would not be moved. I do not know how to convey, not just my feeling, but the feelings of those who have known him. When people talk of selfless service, commitment to nation, leadership by example giving your all to what you believe in, constituting yourself to a one man liberation army driven by national passion to reposition our great country to lead the continent to the way God had intended, Iyayi represented the best of that tradition, he added. Oshiomhole insisted that everyone recognized professors patriotism and commitment, as Iyayi was the one who dedicated his life to education. PDM blame executive recklessness PDM said executive recklessness was responsible for Iyayis death, adding that Iyayis death came at a time when his academic services are needed the most.
