FUN FACT FRIDAY!! Did you know that at the Battle of Little Big Horn, the only survivor in Gen. Custers regiment was a horse? The eight-year-old buckskin gelding named Comanche was owned by the US Army and he was ridden into battle at Little Big Horn by Captain Miles Koegh. Comanche was badly wounded in the fight, and after rehabilitation the Army issued orders that he never be ridden again. He was sent to Fort Riley, Kansas where he served as a regimental mascot and parade horse until his death in 1891 at age 23. You can visit Comanche today at the University of Kansas, where he is stuffed and on display in the colleges Natural History Museum.
