FYI FOR LOUISIANA TAXPAYERS: John White, our State - TopicsExpress

FYI FOR LOUISIANA TAXPAYERS: John White, our State Superintendent, is a former Teach for America (TFA) alumni, teaching for all of two years. He has recruited double digit numbers of out of state TFA buddies with approximately the same experience in the classroom to run our Department of Education, providing them with some cushy salaries. According to Tom Aswell, there are 54 employees of DOE and RSD who earn $100,000 or more per year for a total payroll of $6.7 million. Why do I bring this to your attention? Tomorrow, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education will consider a new contract (we have already put out over $10 million in contracts in the past) with Teach for America to "to recruit and place up to 25 first-year state and federally qualified teachers and retaining 23 second-year teachers in RSD schools through the 2013-14 school year." So we are going to pay Teach for America to recruit 48 teachers for ONE year for ONE district at a COST of $25,052.08 per teacher. HEY, NOT BAD FOR AN EMPLOYMENT COMPANY....ON YOUR DIME! Oh, and did I mention that one of the BESE members Kira Orange-Jones is the executive director of the New Orleans Teach for America office?! Hmmm...bet TFA gets the contract!
