FYI Hormones control the metabolic conversation that determines if we are storing or burning body fat. Simply put, insulin is a storage hormone that is released in response to carbohydrates in our diet; when increased insulin levels are in the bloodstream, cells begin storing nutrients. This storage is referred to anabolic metabolism, and insulin is the best hormone for the job. Muscle and fat cells use the same receptors to bring these nutrients from the bloodstream into the cell. In the early part of the day, fat cells are more receptive so there’s a higher risk of nutrients being stored in fat cells. This results in larger fat cells. Since insulin is activated only when we need to get fuel into our cells, our metabolism “hears” insulin in the bloodstream yelling Hey! We have energy on its way to our cells and there is no need to use any stored energy—aka burn body fat! So the hormone insulin blocks the burning of body fat. Later in the day, muscle cells are more receptive. So the best time to eat carbs would be later in the day. If you lift weights try eating low glycemic carbs 30 minutes before workout and high glycemic carbs within an hour of post workout to utilize your own insulin to build muscle. So if want to lose weight the first half of the day should be low carbs, low sugar and low fat! I have the best meal replacements for breakfast and lunch for you that meets this criteria and it taste fantastic! Youve heard the old saying if it taste good spit it out? Well thats no longer true!
