Facebook- a new direction? Some ruminations about my recent contact with the "new" Facebook. Upon joining up, I was asked to list my "likes" in a number of areas- favorite movies , books, music and an other category. I happily complied and promptly moved on to the real task here of catching up with both old and new friends on what I thought was an innovative way to socially interact in the 21st century. I have just revisited the area where my LIKES are displayed and have discovered some disturbing facts. Apparently utilizing some commercially supplied algorithm program, Facebook has decided to improve on my stated likes in all of the areas requested. First, my generated lists were changed by deleting , on average, about 10 percent of my choices. Then, other, unsolicited choices were inserted in their place. I can only surmise that Facebook, in their infinite wisdom, has decided that my choices needed some improvement. They might have a legitimate claim here. However, I must disagree on some of the choices foisted upon me. I am no fan of rap music, shoot em up car chase movies or most modern fiction. The real " winner"- the Facebook choice that I deem a selection too far- was that they think that I should reward HELLMANS MAYONAISE a place on my likes list. NOT YET! Have I become just too much of a curmudgeon? What do you all think?
