Facebook is a marvelous tool for connecting with the world. All other social media sites are just as useful as well. Cell phones- are even more wonderful since they connect us, in real time, to our favorite social media, take photos, and connect us to our friends immediately via messaging,etc. With this ability to connect so quickly - we have lost our time to think before we share. Im not just talking about hitting the share button in social media, I am also asking if you have validated the truth before you share it verbally (or group text) to your friends? Peoples lives are effected every day by words that are misconstrued - and you could be responsible for that. If you feel the need to share something, then I would imagine it must be important to you. If it is that important to you, then I would surmise that you would do your research first. Whether it is political, global, local news, or gossip, each and every one of us has the power and responsibility to think and decide for ourselves what our beliefs are before we share them. We owe it to ourselves to find the truth before we make a conclusion - and therefor we are doubly more responsible to only share the truth to others. The problem is that our tap-happy fingers are taking that power from our intellect. You can always share the news later that day, that night, or tomorrow. But, once you share it - you are broadcasting your truth to the world. Whatever you are saying better be truly true - because you cant unshare it. You could be ruining your integrity, falsely impacting others opinions, and/or you could be seriously hurting someone who is innocent. Remember that game of Telephone we played in grade-school? That game when one person whispered a sentence to another and by the time everyone whispered it down the line the original sentence was completely scrambled? Now imagine that game amplified with cell phones, instagram, Facebook, texting, etc..... would anyone stop and verify the truth? Please share responsibly.
