Facing Reverses - Part 12 Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva. This is in continuation of the transcription of Srimad Bhagavatam class given by our God brother HG Devakinandan Prabhuji on the lessons we need to learn from Citraketu Maharaj. In the previous offering we heard about 11 points. Now let us continue to hear further. 12. Dont grab: Srila Prabhupada asks us a nice question in the purport. If the son is actually kings enemy, why did king have so much affection for him? Many people also ask this question - If someone has been my enemy in previous life, why do I love him in this life? Why? Prabhupada also answers the question. Even if you have some money, the wealth that you have, you are very affectionate to it. Why? Because it is in your hands. You are very affectionate to your wealth, because it is in your hands. The moment the wealth leaves your hands and goes into the hands of your enemy then you dont like that wealth any more. But wealth is wealth. It didnt hate you or it didnt love you. You are the one who loved or hated it. So why to blame the living entities? We ourselves are to be blamed. See what a simple, but deep point this is? If I have power, then I love what I am doing. But if the same power is transferred to another person, I hate that person. But I loved it just a few minutes ago. I hate it now because it has gone to someone else. That means my grabbing tendency, Maharaj said, is the reason for my lamentation. Maharaj further said, Grabbing tendency is always there in us and we need to have little grabbing tendency and that is for prasadam. Grabbing a bit of prasadam is acceptable. It is just a bit, little bit. But anything more is detrimental. 13. Effect of Sadhu-sanga: So this entire episode of Citraketu Maharaj ends by Citraketu Maharaj awakening. It is very nicely stated in the end that when Citraketu Maharaj and the wives heard the very enlightening speech of the child, Bhagavatam tells us that they became astonished. They said, Wow this is transcendental knowledge! The knowledge which the child delivered through the mercy of Narada Muni and Angira rshi, it actually broke the shackles of material affection. Now at this point Maharaj made a very important statement. He said, Just imagine this situation. Dead child in the cot, Citraketu Maharaj lamenting, queen lamenting, everyone lamenting. And in that lamentation, nobody was able to come out, until two devotees came - Narada Muni and Angira rshi. When Narada Muni and Angira rshi came, even the childs devotional attitude was aroused. The childs true nature was aroused. Maharaj said in the presence of pure devotee, even if you are dead to the world, you can become alive. Even if you are dead to this world, by the touch - brahma sparshanam of a pure devotee, you can become alive. That is what happened to Dhruva Maharaj. In Srimad Bhagavatam 4.9.6 Dhruva Maharaj prays yo ntah pravishya mama vaacam imaam prasuptaam sanjeevayaty akhila-shakti-dharah sva-dhaamnaa anyaams ca hasta-carana-shravana-tvag-aadeen praanaan namo bhagavate purushaaya tubhyam This is the point. Even if we are dead to the world, we become alive to Krishna. So the child was dead to the world, but when Narada Muni came, he woke up. Krishna willing we shall continue to hear more from Prabhuji in the subsequent offering. Hare Krishna. Thank you very much, Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva, Sudarshana devi dasi.
