Fact 7: I find myself in schools of greater need, more often than not. Although behavior issues are not exclusive to economic status, poverty can have drastic effects on learning and development and influence behavioral needs. Children in poverty often have inadquate helath care and diet, with greater exposure to toxic chemicals, which dramatically reduces school success. Poor children are more likely than affluent children to attend schools in dire financial situations, have teachers with less training, and have fewer books, computres, travel experiences, and activities. In the end, if you are always hungry or ill or neglected, it is incredibly difficult to focus on learning. This embodiment of behavior issues is not suprising, because like any other cause of behavior problems, it is communication and often a cry for help.
