Facts about the legality of our NMA strike There is no law in Nigeria that states that a professional body cannot go on strike. The right to strike is an inalienable right of any worker whether the worker is unionized or not and it is enshrined in the labour laws and recognized by ILO.Johesu members are not doctors hence they lack a locus standi to institute that action. They are not even a party to the dispute so why are they taking panadol for my headacheTheir action is also an abuse of the court process. In addition all doctors under NMA have their practice regulated by MDCN and the MDCN act clearly stipulates conditions to be met before going on strike. I am glad NMA met these conditions either directly or vicariously.I have also perused the Hippocratic oath from the Classical version translated from Greek by Ludwig Edelstein and published in 1943 to the Modern version written in 1964 by Louis Lasagana and up to the current one in use via the Geneva declaration revised in 2005/2006.Each one has a comment supporting our strike. The classical version says if i fulfil the oath and do not violate it, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and art, being honoured with fame among all men for all time to come. . The most recent version says i will maintain BY ALL MEANS in my power, the honour and the noble traditions of the medical profession.I am very confident now than ever that this battle will put an end to the years on end of insults passed to doctors and dentists in Nigeria.Good morning every one.
