Faith and spiritual development The Scout Association is an inclusive, values based Movement which supports its members to engage with spirituality in an exciting and meaningful way. An aim of The Scout Association is to encourage the spiritual development of young people. Belief and its exploration helps Scouts to learn from other faiths and develop their personal beliefs and values. Scouts are open and willing to explore faiths whether established or defined or not. Learning about other faiths, beliefs and attitudes can help to make the world a more tolerant place. In our diverse society, people can feel cautious broaching this sensitive subject. To help leaders encourage young people to explore faith, beliefs and attitudes weve identified five principles of spiritual development. The five principles are: 1. Develop an inner discipline and training. 2. Be involved in corporate (group) activities with others. 3. Understand the world around them. 4. Help to create a more tolerant and caring society. 5. Discover the need for spiritual reflection. Rise to the Challenge is a guide for leaders containing activity ideas on spiritual development for all sections.
