Falling Cabinet Kills Sleeping Filipina Helper in HK 45-year-old Filipino domestic helper in Hong Kong died after a heavy wooden cabinet from her bedroom wall crushed her as she was sleeping early yesterday, according to a report from South China Morning Post. She was sleeping beside a five-year-old boy who was under her care . The Filipina, identified only as Fortes, slept on a bed pulled out from the boy’s bed in the apartment in Tseung Kwan O. The falling cabinet had been fixed to a wall directly above the helper’s bed. “When the cabinet crashed down, the boy ran from the room and woke his [43-year-old] father, who called the police,” the officer said, without disclosing how heavy the cabinet was nor what was stored inside. Ms Fortes lost consciousness before paramedics arrived, a police spokeswoman said. The woman was taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital, where she was declared dead shortly before 8am. The boy’s father and grandparents were at home when the incident happened. The woman was known to have worked for the family for several years. The spokeswoman said there was no evidence of foul play, and that the Labour Department had been informed. #chocoruby
