Family, friends and firefighters gathered in Cle Elum on Saturday, July 26 to celebrate the life of Lieutenant William Troy Sybertz. Troy was born January 30, 1964 and passed away on July 8, 2014 at the young age of 50. Troy battled a rare form of brain cancer for 18 months. Troys infectious energy, warm smile and unique laugh will be missed by all. Troy joined the Department on January 14, 2008. Voted Most Improved Firefighter by department members in 2011 was an honor he truly felt humble about. Troy was promoted to lieutenant on January 1, 2012 and worked hard to learn all he could about fire operations. Additional achievements included his EMT certification of which he was very proud. Being a charter member of Ladder 761 and learning aerial ladder operations put a constant smile on his face. His experience as a roofing contractor made him a valuable asset during roof operations. An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking. Troy was employed by Suncadia Resort in community services with his wife Tara working in administration. Following services a procession led by his favorite District 7 Engine 761 led Cle Elum Fire Departments antique Studebaker fire engine with the family on board followed by units from South Cle Elum Fire, Kittitas County Fire District 6 and Upper Kittitas County Medic One. The procession ended at Cle Elum Fire Departments firefighters park where an outdoor gathering was held to share stories of Troys life. A tragic loss to his wife Tara and family, the departments and the Cle Elum community. Rest in Peace Troy.
