Family of four burnt to death in night fire July 25, 2013 • By Our Reporter From BAMIGBOLA GBOLAGUNTE, Osogbo Four members of a family were on Monday nightburnt to death in a midnight inferno that razed their house in Kajola-Ijesa, a suburb of Ilesa in Atakumosa West Local Government Area of Osun State. Daily Sun gathered that the fire incident consumed father, mother and two of their children, while two other children who went for night prayers, escaped death. Also, property of the family including furniture, electronics, cooking utensils and other household materials were reduced to ashes in the midnight inferno. An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who preferred anonymity, said the fire was due to power surge, stressing that the entire house was affected by the fire. The NSCDC officer explained: “We have been to the scene of the incident and found out that it happened due to the return of power to the house by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria. There was no light when the family slept but the high voltage power came at midnight and caused the incident.” It was gathered that the two children, who escaped the fire incident were at a vigil and had encouraged other members of the family to attend the prayer programme but they declined. The incident that threw the entire community into mourning was said to be the first in the area, as fire disaster had never occurred in the town. The state Deputy Governor, Mrs. Grace Laoye-Tomori, who visited the scene of the incident, expressed shock and concern at the death of the four family members in such horrible circumstance, promising that the state government would take care of the remaining two children. Mrs. Tomori who gave an undisclosed amount to the eldest child of the deceased parents, advised the residents of Kajola to be vigilant.
