Farewell my friends. Your fate has been decided through no fault - TopicsExpress

Farewell my friends. Your fate has been decided through no fault of your own and now you start your final journey. Sometimes I just cannot comprehend how someone can just throw away a beloved kids horse, a teacher, trusty rope horse, a faithful companion, a money earner at the track, an old friend, and some that just needed someone to teach them, or just provide some clue as to who they are and what they were. Goodbye Rosie, you were a sweet young mare who walked many miles packing in the mountains. I kissed you on the nose and said dont be scared and then turned you around to load on the truck. Rooster, you good old boy with many years of roping and the kids you carried on your back left you with a bump on your knee, you did what you were told and loaded right up as the others followed your lead. This was the end of the line for these horses and with so many simply discarded there are no places for all of them to go. It never gets any easier and this is my struggle. This is my reality. What makes one horse able to get a home where others ship silently and no one even knows? They are all equally worthy of life but the harsh reality says you place the horses, if you can, that have the potential to be good horses for people and not the ones that are lame or have no history. Not all horses can be rehomed as some people want their horses to ship straight and some are crippled and the feedlot owner does not allow crippled horses to be rehomed. With too many horses and too few homes, the ones that are most marketable are the ones who have a second chance at life because some will ship no matter what, so you have to choose. I feel heartbroken and sick every time I see them ship and know they will be butchered when they get to their final destination in Mexico. The reality sinks in when you look at the truck fully loaded and then the pen horses now emptied after being full of life, and then 10 minutes later the pen is full again with a new set of horses awaiting the same fate. It is a sinking helpless feeling that I will never get over. Even though these horses shipped to slaughter there are other horses that will get a second chance. Please continue to network for the horses that are lucky enough to get a second chance because that is their last chance. That is their only hope. I want to say thank you to everyone who has networked for these horses to get a second chance at life and those who took a chance by taking one in to their home or rescue. You do make a difference and every horse saved is one less shipping to slaughter. You made all the difference to those horses and because of you they have the gift of life. Thank you for being a part of our network and giving of yourselves to change the fate of some truly lucky horses.
