Farid El Atrache – Part 2 Idi fe idik tessir (Hand in hand - TopicsExpress

Farid El Atrache – Part 2 Idi fe idik tessir (Hand in hand it’ll work out) Going back one year from the last post to Farid El Atraches first film „Intissar el shabab“ (Victory of the youth), directed by Ahmed Badrkhan in 1941. This is one of the more than 10 songs in this wonderful movie (despite a naive story) and a very cinematic one. It is an early almost patriotic songs of Farid, as the text is a love declaration to the land and Egyptian countryside: the soil, the waterwheel, the Nile – all these are elements in the text that the famous Egyptian poet (Mahmoud) Bayram El Tounssi wrot. It was a big point for Farid that a poet of his rank wrote for him (more than 20 songs) while he gave only one song to Mohammed Abdel Wahab, who was seriously challenged by the shooting star Farid El Atrache at that time and for many years to come. Galal Mo’awad stated in the tapes of Mohammed Abdel Wahab’s patriotic songs (8 compact cassettes issued by Soutelphan in 1986) that Abdel Wahab was the first one to transform the patriotic song from marches and agitation into a love song. I find this untrue, because Sayed Darwish (1892 - 1923) was the first one who set the example of how patriotic songs can be tender as love songs and even funny. And Farid was the one who sang a real patriotic song as a love song in 1940: Ya masr kont fi gfhorba wahid (Oh Egypt, I was lonely in exile). If you listen to the almost folkloristic simple main tune in “Idi fe idik tessir”, you can hear how much it resembles the style of Sayed Darwish. Within the strophes the composing and singing is much more virtuoso. Farid left to Asmahan the main part by singing two of the three strophes. It is nice how they tried to cope with the Upper Egypt accent by singing: “ma3ahe” instead of “ma3aha” and “nimlokhe” instead of “nimlokha”. May the cheerful tune of this song be with our country in the difficult struggle for peace, freedom and dignity for all citizens. As 2014 comes to and end, I wish you all a happy and blessed 2015! https://youtube/watch?v=ZGRSxJnajqE
